Professional Experience

1974 - 1976 Carpenter/Framing Subcontractor for several home builders- Houston TX
Because I had taken courses in vocational carpentry and worked my way through college as a carpenter, I gained the skills and knowledge necessary to hire some helpers and subcontract framing work in the new home market.

I worked in outside sales of construction equipment and fasteners. I was responsible for maintaining existing accounts and developing new ones among the contractors and subcontractors within Houston's new home construction business.

1984-2004: Columbia/Brazoria ISD- West Columbia, TX Classroom teacher

In my early years with CBISD, I taught all subjects in a self-contained classroom. The school district moved toward departmentalization over the years, and for most of the time I was with CBISD, I specialized in teaching math, science and social studies. The school I last taught in, Brazoria Intermediate School, is a fifth and sixth grade campus which had been rated "Exemplary" by the state of Texas for the three consecutive years. In 1999, we were named a "National Blue Ribbon School" by National Education Association. I sponsored the fifth and sixth grade chess club for the 20 years I was with the district, and I have taken a major role in the development and maintenance of the school's web site and the teaching web development skills to other educators. I have received stipends for serving as the district's energy manager and also for serving as the campus technical support personnel.

2004 - 2007: Windham School District - in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

I taught adult literacy to Texas Prison inmates within the environment of a maximum security prison. My responsibilities included giving the offenders the knowledge they would need in order to pass the GED (high school equivalency) exam. I also taught a vocational business course which certified prisoners to work with Microsoft Office applications. I was also trained in special classes to teach the prisoners skills they would need for successful reintegration into society upon their release from the Texas prison system.

2008- present: River's End Volunteer Fire Department

I have served as a firefighter, having received training and certification from the Texas A&M Extension Branch in Brazoria County.
